Hour of Power is an hour spent with Holy Spirit. We allow the Spirit of God to lead us in the direction He would like us to go. For the moment, Hour of Power is “Prayer School.”
The purpose of “Prayer School” is to teach believers on the subject of prayer and to demonstrate biblical prayer during a time of prayer that follows the instruction.
Ask a Christian what prayer is and you’ll get a variety of answers. Ask them what the Bible says is the correct way for a New Testament believer to pray and they probably can’t give you a scriptural answer.
If we don’t know what prayer actually is and how to do it scripturally, why bother? If we’re going to pray, shouldn’t we learn to do it right? If it doesn’t make a difference, why then did Jesus instruct us to pray?
Prayer is not the fulfillment of duty to appease our conscience. It’s not vain repetition (Matthew 6:7). It’s not rehearsing some creed. It’s not a time of reflective meditation. It’s not some unspoken request. (Where did that one come from? The Bible says, “Yet you do not have because you do not ask…”James 4:2.) Prayer is not a feeling, a sensation or formula. It’s not a monologue or spiritual manipulation. It’s not a special ministry or gifting. The Bible says every believer is a “house of prayer” Hebrews 3:6; Matthew 21:13. Finally, it’s most certainly not a “when all else fails” proposition. People that adopt this attitude don’t know God, don’t know the Word of God, don’t know and understand prayer, have no concept whatsoever about the power of prayer and have absolutely no faith in God or His Word.
Prayer is fundamental to a believer’s success and a church’s success. The degree to which we are convinced of this is the degree of priority we give it in our lives personally and in the life of our church corporately. It’s only when we’re personally convinced that things happen in answer to biblical prayer that prayer will become something more than an optional extra in the life of a believer or the life of a church.
Consider this: According to Genesis 1:26-28, God gave dominion (dominion means the power to govern and control) over everything in the earth to mankind. Believers, therefore, either facilitate or frustrate the fulfillment of God’s plan, purpose and will in the earth by their prayer life or lack of prayer life. Believers that don’t or won’t pray are a neutralizing force in the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. They lower the spiritual climate in His Church.
Hour of Power is held Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.
